How to file tax extensions in Vermont
Published:The income tax returns for residents of The Green Mountain State are due by April.
However, if you need more time to file your return, you can get a six-month tax extension from the Vermont Department of Taxes. A tax extension will extend your filing deadline to October — but it does not extend the time you have to pay your income taxes.
Any state income tax that you owe must still be paid by the original filing due date (April 15th) or penalties and interest charges will apply
To request a state tax extension, use Vermont Tax Form IN-151 (Application for Extension of Time to File Form IN-111 VT Individual Income Tax Return). Make sure this form is submitted by the original filing deadline of your return (April 15th).
Mail Form IN-151 to the following address:
VT Department of Taxes, PO Box 1779, Montpelier, Vermont 05601-1779
