How to file tax extensions in Iowa
Published:State tax returns for residents of the Hawkeye State are due by April 30.
However, if you need more time to file your return, you must pay 90 percent of your total state tax liability by the original filing due date ( that’s April 30, folks) and the Iowa Department of Revenue will grant you an automatic six-month extension, moving your filing deadline to Oct. 31.
Luckily, there is no separate tax extension application/form for the state of Iowa. Phew.
You can make a state tax payment online or by using Iowa Tax Form IA-1040V (Individual Income Tax Payment Voucher). To avoid late fees and interest charges, make sure you pay at least 90 percent of your income tax liability on time.
Mail Form IA-1040V (with check or money order) to:
Iowa Department of Revenue, Iowa Income Tax – Document Processing, PO Box 9187, Des Moines, Iowa 50306-9187
